It’s often fascinating when we listen to some of the conversations that people have around us when it comes to success. People come up with all sorts of reasons for why they aren’t where they’d like to be. They blame their employer, their partner, their upbringing, their economic situation. They blame their education, the government, their past hurt or failure. And even if they recognise the common thread in all these scenarios is self, they often defend the lack of progress by default.
Joe Pane, head trainer at The Coaching Institute, often says, “Nature teaches us many lessons… One of which is, we’re either green and growing or we’re ripe and rotting.” It’s such a powerful analogy. It challenges us to step outside comfort and continuously seek to learn more, be more, do more and achieve more. Not for the sake of mere accomplishment, rather to live a life that’s truly fulfilled. As Les Brown says, “It’s been said that most people die at age 25, but don’t get buried until age 65.” We owe it to ourselves to be more than bystanders on the journey of life.
